Anonymous says: 3 parts water to 1 part denatured alcohol with a small amount of vanilla extract (the alcohol helps the water evaporate so you can remove the application tape sooner) posted on: Wed, 11/22/2006 - 4:51pm
Anonymous says: Why vanilla extract? Make it smell good? Anyway, we have a new shop also, and tips are very appreciated! posted on: Mon, 12/04/2006 - 4:12pm

We use blue glass cleaner and water. In a standard size spray bottle, pour in about a half inch of glass cleaner, and the rest water. If you've got a spray bottle of glass cleaner, in mist mode spray into an empty bottle about 30 times and fill the rest with water. It's soapy, but not too soapy... and it evaporates a little faster than straight soap and water. If you want it a bit "slicker"... add more cleaner. We clean our material with the same mixture we use to apply our graphics... 1 bottle for 2 jobs.

the blue glass cleaner probably contains ammonia. Which, will show no adverse effects while your applied vinyl is still in shop, but it starts breaking down at the poly-adhesives, you'll notice a lot of vinyl curls at the edges, the adhesive has broken down, a lot of that can be credited to ammonia during application.

I don't understand... app fluid is available from the same people who sell vinyl. Why futz around with home-made mixtures when what works is readily available and relatively cheap?

For some thirty dollars a gallon vs. ten dollars a gallon is reason enough to create their own recipe. There was a fella that was known to post here over the summer that made and sold his recipe on ebay for a good price, Vinny B's Application Fluid I think. Dont know if he is still around though. I think Sign Web is like a McDonalds, there seems to be a high rate of turn over of the contributors.
