I have a job coming up were I need to spray some 1/2" pvc letters that I am stud mounting to a routered alum shape. I plan on spraying bullitin paint for the alum background and the letters. My questions are what prep do i need to do to the pvc and what kind of primer should I use for the pvc? Do I need to sand/scuff the pvc? I always DA sand my alum before i paint it. Thanks
We paint a ton of it. We use mathews polyurethane (no primer needed) if we need to match a custom color or want the extra durability. Always scuff, but very lightly so you will not mar the surface- use a gray scuff pad by hand (not red- it's too rough). And clean with denatured alcohol prior to painting. You can use most good exterior laytex house paints as well, and they don't need a primer either. If painting with laytex, use only water or a water based cleaner to clean as anything stronger will affect the laytex long term. Laytex works well because you can build up the paint on the edges of the letters to hide the holes in the cell structure. Hope this helps.
sherwin-williams dtm enamel. its water based (no voc's) and dries fast, sticks better than regular latex. no primer needed, no need to scuff what youre painting. will stick to anything, and wont fade, even the red.
