Painting

Does anyone know if "tricks of the trade" as far as what to put or use into a paint booth to cut down on dust and dirt. We spray a lot of small architectural signs and continually fight dirt specs in the finish. We are using the Matthews paint. We scuff the signs down with a scotch brite pad and wipe off with a tack cloth but that doesn't seem to get the job done. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mathews will gas off for a good 16-24 hours.....but the first few hours after is your problem.

Assume that you don't have a fully enclosed booth.

We do have a enclosed semi down draft booth. We currently tape the signs down to gator foam type board to spray them. Most of the signage we are painting is less than 12" x 12".

Acorn Sign says: We are not currently doing that. How much water do you feel is needed to do a good job? Our booth doesn't have a floor drain so I don't want to put down too much. posted on: Thu, 02/18/2010 - 5:15pm

Curious as to how often you change the filters and CLEAN the booth. By cleaning I don't mean just the floor... I;m talking walls, ceilings, etc. Wetting the floor as workboots mentioned can help a great deal, but I think you're problem is from the air coming in and out of the booth or dust falling off the ceiling. If there is sanding, cutting, routing, etc taking place anywhere near the booth that can be a problem to. Once you open the door and the exhaust sytem is on you are sucking tons of particulates into the booth. Dust in a pain in the but.....
