Roland or Mimaki Printer

I am looking at a Roland 54" Soljet Print/cut printer and a Mimaki Jv series bundle printer W/ seperate plotter. I will be purchasing a new unit. I will probably be laminating about 50% of my printed items. What printer would be the best buy? Is there any advantage to having a print/cut machine all in one? What about the solvent vs eco solvent inks durability? Also, I don't want to have to have special ventilation for the printer. Any info appreciated. Thanks, Perry.

the advantage i have found with the seperates are that if you have just a print job your cut has to wait.
If you get a cutter with the allignment cutting head you dont have to tie up your printing machine.

Hey Tiffany-----advertise and solicit somewhere else!!!

I've sold non-Roland products for sometime, and have always had to "fight" against the perceived value of having the cutter built-in---"2 for 1", less space, etc.

As the previous post said, you won't be able to cut right after printing---there will be some flash time involved on the solvent end of things.

Also, realignment of laminated prints has gotten better with Roland these days over previous models, but the error factor can still pop up.

Myself, I've always believed a printer is for printing, and a cutter for cutting. If you're cutting with your printer, you can't print. If you're in the middle of a long print job, you can't cut. Also, do you plan on still just cutting vinyl?----it will happen once in awhile.

Workflow wise, a standalone cutter along side your printer makes good business sense.

My first printer was a printer/cutter (Roland cammjet CJ70).
The pint/cut accuracy was bad at that time (I'm talking 10 years ago. I'm sure they have improved it).

It's good to have all in one machine. You save money and also space.

I've heard Roland prints nicer than Mimaki.
Haven't had the chance to compare them.
Ask your dealers for print samples.

Speed and operational cost seem to be the same.

Good luck!

I looked at Roland printers before I bought my Mimaki and I liked them, but it just seemed like it wasn't really good for high production. I guess it depends on what you are using it for. Of course you have the Roland name which is good and everything i've seen printed from a Roland printer looks darn nice, but I wouldn't trade the Mimaki for anything but a bigger one at this point.

Thanks,
Kurt
