What is the software that everyone is using for outdoor signs? It looks like a mechanical drawings. It has all the mechanical dimensions and even a guy standing beside it...and would it be to much to ask for wind load stuff? I know I know...high maintenance or just trying to be more efficient?
practically any good design software will do that...
I personally use corel & Flexi, the guy is just a piece of clipart sized correctly... 6'

as for the wind load stuff, I could probably macro that in corel....I do not know any software that does that...perhaps autocad( if it's still around) or some other cad application...
The formula for wind load for your steel is
(Sq. ft. of sign) X (windload desired, PSF) X (Height of sign to Center of load in inches) Divded by 26,000 gives you your section Modulus of your steel.
Most places will still require an engineer stamp.

You can use Coreldraw and a good paint program like Corel Photopaint or Adobe Photoshop for Conceptual, Permit and Engineered Scaled Drawings.
There are also two great plug-in software applications that are a must have for sign making in corel: #1 is EZ Metrics (for quickly creating isometric drawings) and #2 Curveworks (which allows you to measure the linear footage of your artworks line segments so you can produce accurate production files).
If your shop is a high end custom shop then It would be very helpful to also use 3D program like 3DS Max, Lightwave, Maya or less expensive programs like Hexagon, Carrara or Byrce 3D
I would advise anyone wanting to learn about using coreldraw to join the CorelDraw Sign Designers group in Yahoo Groups.
If you have any questions, the group is pretty helpful and will answer them for you. Here is the link below

I use adobe ai, psd, and rhino for my 3d. Solidworks is too structured for engineering. rhino is better for 3d prototyping and
modeling.
Here is the secret. use a program called cadtools for adobe illustrator. it is awesome!
