A wrap with a sweet tooth

Picture yourself sitting in morning rush-hour traffic, and this SUV rolls up alongside you. Crullers, long johns, Bavarian-cream-filled pastries and other deep-fried delectables are liable to leave motorists drooling on their steering wheels or, in extreme cases of low blood sugar, spur them to step out of their cars to take a bite. A disclaimer, such as “Warning: This vehicle is decorated with vinyl, not a sugary glaze,” might be in order.

Proformance Signs & Graphics (O’Fallon, MO) photographed several of Heaven Scent’s bakery items, edited them using Photoshop® software, and designed the wrap to appear as if these goodies were cascading onto the vehicle’s lavender backdrop. Mike Corbin, Proformance’s designer, laid out the graphics using the Bad Wraps template for a GMC Denali.

After having prepped the surface with xylene, denatured alcohol and 3M’s Primer 94 adhesion promoter, the shop produced the 220-sq.-ft. wrap on its Roland DGA Corporation SP-540V solvent-ink printer with Avery Graphics’ MPI 1005 air-egress vinyl for the body, and Oracal’s Orajet 3676 perforated film for the windows. Avery Graphics’ DOL 1030 overlaminate protects the project. Mike Corbin and Bill Riechmann installed the graphics using Avery’s blue, felt squeegees, X-Acto® knives, a propane torch and a tape measure.
