In-store marketing tool increases shopper engagement and connectivity

Stratacache (Dayton, OH), a provider of scalable, digital signage, has released its QR Code for Digital Signage Software. Stratacache digital signage with embedded Quick Response (QR) codes enables retailers to engage customers by sending promotional data directly to their customers’ mobile devices.
QR codes are encrypted with data that, when scanned via digital signage, can call up a web page or PDF that contains additional information related to the digital-signage message. Communicating at the point of purchase minimizes printing in-store flyers and coupons and also engages shoppers.
QR codes can be measured against engagement metrics, such as the number of scans, responses or downloads, to track ROI. Advertisers can capture data on the location, time of day and which materials caught the most consumer attention, and use that information for future efforts.
Stratacache’s digital signs can include QR codes in an advertiser’s message, which prompt a customer to take a photo of the code with a smart phone and receive coupons or further information about the product.
Stratacache’s QR Code is a base feature available through the company’s ActiVia for Media solution for digital marketing that manages the entire, digital-signage lifecycle for multi-layered playlist creation, distribution, audience measurement and monitoring of large-scale, digital-signage networks. ActiVia, which is scalable, can manage networks containing up to 250,000 concurrent media devices.
QR code clickthroughs are measured through ActiVia, which can be purchased as a customer-deployed solution, through a Software as a Service (SaaS) arrangement, or as a managed service via Stratacache or its worldwide partners.
Stratacache CEO Chris Riegel sees increasing use of QR codes as more smartphones include them. “Whereas we had to work harder at making some technologies, such a Bluetooth, seem easier to use, QR codes, once they’re downloaded, are instantly useable.”
The codes have been used most frequently in retail venues and banks, where the technology can replace promotional materials or coupons directly to customers’ mobile devices. Riegel said a popular application has been a retail store’s promotion to teens, where potential customers who downloaded the QR code received songs by a certain band.

QR codes are becoming increasing popular as retailers start to realize its usefulness. Used on top on digital signage, an advertisement message can be transmitted very successfully. If the customer had to make an additional step to understand the message by downloading the QR code, he will be sure to remember the ad.
