Slate Magazine Recognizes Signs' Importance

The online publication is compiling a six-part, sign-related series

As many municipalities and states ponder such restrictions and digtal-sign bans and restrictive code modifications, it's positive refreshing to see a member of the general media recognize the vital role signs play -- and how a poorly planned sign system can exact negative, even tragic, consequences. Slate's Julia Turner has written a six-part series, which the online magazine will publish through March 11, that addresses various aspects of the key role signs play in public spaces. The subhead of the first article nicely summarizes signage as an unsung societal hero: "[Signs are] the most useful thing you pay no attention to." Signmakers certainly want to convey an implication to customers that signs are ignored, but the line certainly attests to how underappreciated signage can be.
