Sign Biz Inc. (Dana Point, CA), the chain of royalty-free sign businesses, has added Alicia Hanson and Luis Pena to its Sign Technology Instructors team in its 20th-anniversary year.
Hanson, with 15 years of industry experience, has been involved in various aspects of the sign industry, including sign fabrication, internal organization and project management. She opened her own signshop in 1994, sold the business in 1998 to tradeshow company Steelhead Productions and segued into the creative director role for West Coast-based environmental graphic design firms. She currently owns her Oceanside, CA-based environmental graphic design firm, which works on retail, entertainment, industrial, civic, corporate and campus projects.
Hanson’s training curriculum, which covers Flexi and Adobe design programs, sign technology, color management and pricing, helps members become specialists, the company says. The course addresses issues, challenges and initiatives instrumental in business success, and Hanson’s thoughts on what qualities help shape future top performers in the signage industry.
Pena specializes in such sign-industry services as printer and cutter operation; maintenance and installation services, and has front-line design experience. Pena began his sign-industry career more than 13 years ago when he was hired by a national sign company based in San Diego and Mexico. Later, a sign-supply distribution company hired him as an account manager for the western region. He is also a fully certified Roland and HP printer technician.
The Sign Biz Formal Training Program, in its 20th year as part of the company’s Sign Arts certification, is known for its thoroughness and its applicability to the small-business environment. Spearheaded by Sign Biz President Teresa M. Young, who was a CAS sign-industry pioneer and business owner more than 20 years ago, the program is one of the few of its kind for the digital-sign industry.
