Let’s just get this out of the way: The NYC premiere for The Tudors was fit for a king. There, glad that’s over with.

But seriously, One Source’s (NYC) transformation of the Sheraton Towers Hotel into Windsor Castle was nothing short of grand.

Though One Source’s Michael Frank wouldn’t say the company is directly responsible for choosing the location, it did tell Showtime that the hotel’s rotunda made it ideal for the regal makeover. Good thing Showtime already had a business relationship with Sheraton’s owner, Starwood Hotels.

Creating a medieval look requires a medieval approach, so designers laid each brick one by one. Okay, not literally. The bricks were individually placed in the digital file because patterns would have been quite obvious once they were blown up several hundred fold.

One Source created 7,605 sq. ft. of material in three weeks. The banners, created with Heywinkel perforated mesh, ranged in size from 15 x 45 ft. to 111 x 16 ft. and were output on a Vutek printer.

The installation required just two days. The building’s façade, wrapped for three and a half weeks, received the reactions big jobs like this can only get in NYC. “Some people did double-takes,” Frank said. “Others didn’t notice at all.”
