Southwest Signs (San Antonio, TX), as part of its “Going Green” initiative, has designed and manufactured two, entirely solar-powered signs for North Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio. The cost of running electrical wiring to the existing sign proved prohibitive, because the signs were situated far from the facility. Southwest Signs suggested solar-powered signs would solve the problem, plus reduce power consumption and costs.
Justin Brister, Southwest Signs’ team and project lead, manufactured a double-faced, internally illuminated cabinet and re-worked an existing, double-faced cabinet to integrate with the solar setup. Both signs can be lit 12 hours a night.
Greg Burkett, president of the custom division, said, “Today, going green is a business decision and economic solution for our customers.”
Last year, Southwest Signs built their first, award-winning, solar-powered sign, located at the Quarry Golf Course and Restaurant. The Texas Sign Association awarded Southwest Signs third place for smaller, freestanding electrical signs.
Southwest Signs provides in-house project management, design and manufacturing of local- and national-signage programs for some of the most recognized corporations in the U.S.
