Mitsubishi Electric Corp. (Tokyo) has installed a Diamond Vision large-scale display system at JAM Square, located within JR Kokura Station in Kitakyushu, Japan. The new screen will be officially unveiled at the rail station May 7.
The 4.2-meter-wide x 2.3-meter-tall screen incorporates the latest digital screen controllers and high luminance LEDs, aligned in a 6mm-pixel pitch. JAM Square, a popular rendezvous spot for events, attracts 150,000 visitors per day.
The Diamond Vision screen, which is similar to other Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision screens found in baseball and football stadiums, and other mass-audience venues, will display local tourist information as well as business and event ads.
The Kitakyushu monorail runs every 10 minutes from JR Kokura, which is the area's main rail station. Kokura lies the heart of Kitakyushu, a large metropolis in the Fukuoka prefecture on the island of Kyushu. The ancient feudal castle town was targeted for the second nuclear bomb in World War II. However, the plane diverted to Nagasaki because the sky over Kokura was cloudy. The modern city of Kitakyushu took shape in 1963, when the cities of Moji, Kokura, Tobata, Yahata and Wakamatsu were merged by an administrative fiat.
