LEDs prohibited under previous ordinance
Officials in Lindenhurst, IL have agreed to review and update the village’s sign ordinance to accommodate some LED signs, which are currently prohibited except by special-use permit, the Lake County News-Sun reported May 14. Assistant Village Administrator Karl Warwick compiled proposed restrictions for LED signs, which include restricting LEDs to one color on a black background with no animation, scrolling or flashing characters or graphics.
“Signs define the character of a community. Upgrading our requirements would be good for our village,” Trustee Patty Chybowski told the News-Sun. As a concession, the village will simplify the variance process. A new ordinance is expected this summer.
