Environmentalists plan to cover the iconic Hollywood sign to publicize its attempt to purchase the land it stands on, according to the Los Angeles Times. Leaders of the Public Trust for Lands intend to cover the sign with a banner that reads "Save the Peak," which it hopes will help it raise the $11.7 million dollars to purchase the 56-hectare site from the Chicago-based property developer that already owns it.
The trust, which has until April 14 to complete the deal, and says it already has half the amount it needs.
The organization had planned to keep the coverup of the world- famous landmark a surprise, but police issued a “community alert notification” to alert the community that they "not be alarmed" because the 150-metre-long landmark "will remain in place and there will be no changes done to the sign."
