In Clichy, at the border of the Parisian ring road, DEFI (Cedex/Paris), the spectacular division of Clear Channel Outdoor in Europe, has illuminated a 4 x 40-meter spectacular with 3,500 LED modules, which are powered by photovoltaic solar panels. DEFI’s technical system lights up the brand name of Toshiba. The company says the photovoltaic generator, which comprises 56 monocrystal panels, produces roughly 9,000 kWh of electricity, which approximately equals the amount consumed by the sign.
Philippe Delahaye, president of Toshiba Systèmes France, said, “Installing this ad sign consequently answers a long-term approach that aims to neutralize our impact on the environment. As part of this process, environmental respect is the key word of our actions, technologies and products development.”
The DEFI Group is present in more than 40 major cities worldwide. The company has been replacing neon with LED for five years. Cyrille Leclerc, general director of DEFI France, said, “LED technology offers an energy economy of about 80% compared to neon tube. The perfect control of this technology allows us to offer the photovoltaic option to our customers.”
