Daktronics to Update Astros’ Display System

(November 2010) posted on Fri Nov 19, 2010

Will add video displays and ribbon displays for the 2011 season

Daktronics Inc. (Brookings, SD) will design, manufacture and install a multimillion dollar, integrated, video-display system at Houston's Minute Maid Park, home of MLB’s Houston Astros.
The video-display system, featuring a 1,080-line, high-definition video display, will be installed before the start of the 2011 season.
The main, 54 x 124-ft., 1,080-line, high-definition video display will be located in rightfield. A 24 x 40-ft. auxiliary display will be installed in leftfield.
Both the main and auxiliary video displays will utilize Daktronics newest 15mm LED technology, featuring a tighter resolution and improved image quality. The videoboard can operate as a single, giant display or be divided into multiple zones (windows) to show statistics, information, graphics, animation, and live and recorded video.
A 4 x 1,000-ft. Daktronics digital ribbon display, will also stretch from foul pole to foul pole. A similar display, measuring 4 x 188-ft., will be located under the main video display. Both ribbon displays, which will utilize 20mm LED technology, can show game information, real-time team and player statistics, animations and cropped video clips. These displays can also promote sponsors.
Also included in the project is Daktronics’ new Show Control system, which provides a combination of display-control software, video processing, data integration, and playback hardware.
