There are those who would say that an American automotive icon such as a 1965 Mustang should stand unadorned. Fortunately, some gearheads prefer to fan the flames – literally – of even a legend’s graphic potential. With this in mind, Road Rage Designs (Spring Grove, IL) installed the first reported wrap on this venerated roadster in front of a camera crew from www.classicmusclecars.com.

Mike Grillo, Road Rage’s owner, drew his design inspiration from a similar graphic the shop created for a 2003 Corvette. However, using Adobe® Photoshop®, the design team altered the scales to appear less exaggerated and similar to snakeskin for this project.

The Road Rage crew decorated the car with Avery Dennison Graphics & Reflective Products Div. MPI 1005 EZ RS film, a 2.1-mil, opaque, cast film with the company’s Easy Apply™ air-egress technology, and DOL 1000 2-mil, glossy, cast overlaminate. They output the wrap on a Mimaki JV3-160SP solvent-ink printer.

The program that depicts the wrap’s step-by-step progress airs on Comcast’s ClassicMusclecars.com TV show throughout February, and is also accessible on the aforementioned website.
