Before the dawn of political correctness, “sign monkeys” was an endearing term for those fearless men who made installations and repairs hundreds, if not thousands, of feet above ground. This 1935 Chevrolet promotional documentary, “Behind the Bright Lights,” celebrates the know-how and courage of installers who kept this 23-story-high Chevrolet spectacular, one of Chicago’s most prominent signs in its day, alight.
So, enjoy the derring-do of the sign installers (as well as the narrator’s eloquent language and perfect diction – almost as bygone as the sign itself). Link:
